Kandy — Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa)

Kandy is Sri Lanka's cultural capital, nestled in the misty hills of the Central Province. At its heart lies the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa), one of the most venerated Buddhist sites in the world, believed to house a sacred tooth relic of the Buddha. The temple complex, part of the old royal palace precinct, is an active place of worship and central to national religious ceremonies such as the annual Esala Perahera.

Visitors can admire ornate Kandyan architecture, witness daily rituals, and explore nearby attractions including Kandy Lake, the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peradeniya, and lively cultural performances. Guided tours or a stroll through the historic streets provide deeper insight into Kandyan traditions and history.
