Itinerary
This 6 Nights / 7 Days itinerary offers a compact, highlights-only journey across Sri Lanka: arrival in Negombo, ancient sites in Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa, cultural Kandy, scenic hill country of Nuwara Eliya and Ella with the famous train ride, a wildlife safari at Yala, and a final beach or Colombo transfer for departure.
Day 1 – Arrival in Sri Lanka – Negombo
Arrive at Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB). Transfer to Negombo for rest, a beach walk, and overnight stay.
Day 2 – Sigiriya / Polonnaruwa
Travel to the Cultural Triangle. Visit Sigiriya Rock Fortress and the ancient city of Polonnaruwa or enjoy optional village experiences. Overnight in Sigiriya area.
Day 3 – Dambulla | Kandy
Visit Dambulla Cave Temple, then travel to Kandy via Matale with stops at a spice/herbal garden. Evening visit to the Temple of the Tooth. Overnight in Kandy.
Day 4 – Kandy | Nuwara Eliya
Explore Kandy in the morning (lake, markets, optional botanical garden), then drive into the hill country to Nuwara Eliya, visiting a tea plantation and factory. Overnight in Nuwara Eliya.
Day 5 – Nuwara Eliya | Ella (Scenic Train)
Enjoy the scenic train journey (subject to availability) to Ella. Visit the Nine Arch Bridge and Little Adam’s Peak. Overnight in Ella.
Day 6 – Yala Safari | Southern Coast
Drive to Yala for a wildlife jeep safari to spot leopards, elephants and other wildlife. Continue to the southern coast (Mirissa/Weligama) for beach time. Overnight on the southern coast.
Day 7 – Beach / Colombo | Departure
Optional early morning whale-watching (seasonal) or beach relaxation. Transfer to Colombo for a short city tour (time permitting) and onward transfer to the airport for departure.
