Haputhale

Haputale is one of the most spectacularly situated towns of Sri Lanka. Driving from Belihuloya to Haputale is very enjoyable, with a unique view of the mountain range, tea plantations and estate bungalows with beautifully landscaped gardens. Visitors can reach Haputale by train as well. This is the Southern edge of the hill country. Many travellers make this a base to visit Horton Plains. You can also visit the highest waterfall, Bambarakanda from here.

If you take a turn from Beragala to Wellawaya you could visit Diyaluma Falls, which is one of the highest water falls. Haputale provides visitors the pleasure of walking, hiking & trekking in the surrounding hills. ADISHAM MONASTERY - HAPUTALE

The Adisham Bungalow was designed and built by a young Englishman, Sir Thomas Lister Villers. He began his life as a trainee planter. Later in 1905, he joined George Steuards, a Trading company in Colombo and was appointed as the chairman of the company in 1928. The name Adisham is the name of the village he hailed from in England. He was a successful planter. The building of this fourty roomed palace commenced in 1927 and was completed in 1931. Most of the material and technology were from England and India. This palace has now become a hermitage of Benedictine Monks.

Dambetenna Tea Factory

Dambatenna Tea Factory, built in 1890 by Sir Thomas Lipton, the tea magnate whose name is immortalized in Lipton's Tea. The workers' quarters of the famous factory accommodates over 4,000 people; the 20,000 sq ft factory employees 1,600 workers.

This is located 10km away from Haputale town. This is an ideal place for visitors to learn the tea making process, with fermentation, tolling, drying, cutting, sieving, grading being involved in the full circle of the process.

Diyaluma Falls

This is the third highest water fall in Sri Lanka with a height of 171 m. it is located in the dry zone, fed from the Punagala oya, a tributary of Kirindi Ganga, which flows to the sea at Thissamaharamaya. This is very close to the A-4 road between Koslanda and Wellawaya (205-206 Km).

Fox-hill Diyathalawa

Fox Hill is famous for its annual Motor Cross, the Fox Hill Super Cross organized by the Military Academy. The Combat Training School of Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Military Academy is situated in Diyatalawa.

Haputale Gap

Haputale Gap is one of the most spectacular views in the country. The great amphitheatre of the upper Uva spreads out to the north and east. It borders the mountains of Idalgashinna, Ohiya and the Horton Plains National Park, the peaks of Hakgala, the purple cone of Namunukula, and Poonagala and Nuwara Eliya. On the other side is an equally breathtaking view of the foothills of the lower Uva and southern Sabaragamuwa followed up by the Southern Province right down to the sea.

Lipton's Seat

This is the place where Sir Thomas Lipton used to discover and enjoy the land while surveying the surrounding area of his plantation. You can enjoy the breathtaking panoramic view of the area from here. This is located on top of the Poonagala hill near Dambetenna tea factory. To reach here you have to climb 7 km through tea plantations. You can reach here from Bandarawela via Nayabedda estate or from Haputale via Dambetenna estate. It is better to visit in the morning hours before 10 am to enjoy the tour. BANDARAVELA

Bandarawela is an excellent place for holidaying. The town is surrounded by lush, green mountain ranges. There are many colonial buildings, temples, churches, playground, market, super market and all the other necessary facilities.

Dowa Rock Temple

Dowa Rock Temple is located by the side of Badulla-Bandarawela main road, 6 kms from Bandarawela. It has colourful murals and inscriptions belonging to the 1st Century B.C., which bring out stories of the Buddha's life.The unfinished rock-cut standing Buddha of 8m height is the main attraction. PEACE PAGODA

This Japanese Peace Pagoda is built on a hill overlooking the Bandarawela town. This temple is beautifully decorated with an elderly Japanese monk residing there.
