Ambalangoda is famous for its folk arts, mainly masks and puppetry. As souvenirs, masks have become a popular attraction of tourists. Masks are made to depict humans, demons, various types of animals, birds and snakes.

Modara Devale

Modara Devale is located at Hirawatta, in close proximity to the Ambalangoda Rest House. This is dedicated to Goddess Pattini with the shrine facing the land. There are two shrines that are devoted for Deity of Katharagama and Devol Deviyo. These are patronized by the fishermen in the area to invoke blessings

Mask Artists

Mask artists in Ambalangoda are very clever in turning out masks out of light wood and painting, which are used by dancers in folk performances. Masks are made to depict humans, demons, various types of animals, sometimes a combination of animals. The museum, Ariyapala Mask Museum is one of the many famous centers making masks

Moonstones at Kahawa -Meetiyagoda

This moonstone deposit is al Meetiyagoda off Kahawa Junction on the A2 Colombo Galle road, before reaching Hikkaduwa. This is a well known deposit of semi-precious stones, the only site that moonstones are available in such a large quantity in the island. These white coloured moonstones are used for the making of jewellery, chains and ornamental ware. The visitor centre provides information about stones while the gift shop on the site sells moonstones along with other gems like topaz, garnets, tiger eye and tourmaline.

Patuwatte Trinity Church

This is situated on Galle Road (A2: 106th post), 2km passing Hikkaduwa. This appealing building of the church is about 300m away from the Paranagana junction.

Seenigama Devalaya

This is situated on Galle Road (A2: 96- 97km Posts). The original Devalaya had been on the mainland and now it has become a small island due to erosion. This has become a famous place of worship and place where people tell their grievances to god, and people believe that the god "Devol" listens to them and helps them. This is about 300 years old according to the structural evidence and historical records. There is a deep well which is supposed to have fresh water as in Jaffna, Bundala, and Unawatuna.
