Kilinochchi is the main town in the district. In Kilinochchi you will find the branches of almost all the local banks. The town is being built with new buildings and roadways. You can visit Iranamadu tank which is close by, and also you can see the Paranthan Chemical factory which was running profitably before the war, and now it is being reconstructed.
Population in Killinochchi district in 2012 was 112,875. There are 258 villages under three local government authorities.
Newly established War Museum is on your way to Nanthikadal lagoon. This museum displays the final days of the operation of the three forces and primarily displays the massive collection of hi-speed boats, locally manufactured submersibles, suicide boats and missile launchers captured during the last stages of the liberation operation. The Monument of Victory lies next to the museum.
The massive swimming pool of 83 feet waily breakfast long (deep end 22 feet) on Mulativ road which was used probably built exclusively to train deep divers of the sea tiger wing and there are 2 pathways to the bottom of the pool where a person could observe diving activities at the bottom through glass window at the bottom. This whole pool has had a steel camouflaged roof which is now removed. Similar to all other places this too now lies inside an army camp.
